Soaring High On Wings Like Eagles

BIBLE READING:  Isaiah 40:31 But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

I remember as a child my family would be in our backyard swimming, the sky beautiful and sunny,  and our beagle dog, Cocoa, was with us.   All at once Cocoa would go running through the yard, into the house - but she would run RIGHT THROUGH the back screen door.  It got to be a joke at the local hardware store when my Dad would take the door for repairs over and over and over!     Cocoa was smart - she knew a storm was coming, and no matter what her family was doing - she was getting to safety.    She knew ahead of time - when the sky looked blue and sun was out - she still knew that storm was coming and she was getting inside!

We all want to 'get inside' when a bad storm is coming.  But what about when a storm of life is on the horizon?   OR Maybe for you the storm is already here, and it's pitch dark out, the heavy winds are unbearable, with no sign of it letting up.   What do you do?

Isaiah 40:31 instructs us to "TRUST, HOPE, or WAIT" on the Lord.

“Truly my soul waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved, Psalm 63:1-2. ”

But what exactly does this mean?    It means to DEPEND on God with a CONFIDENT EXPECTATION OF HOPE, RESTING IN HIM because He is able to quiet the storm.   We are told that when we do this, we will soar high on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint.

Eagles are pretty amazing creatures!   When storms gather - they actually get excited.  They use the storms wind to lift themselves high above the clouds.

In 2009 our family faced a storm.  My husband, Tom, was diagnosed with throat cancer.   Having never been a smoker - we were pretty shocked.   As he underwent treatment - we learned that our TRUST, WAIT, & HOPE  h-a-d to be in the Lord to see us through.   The memories from that time are not bad, they are actually good.  I can remember our 'theme song' during those months was "Blessed Be The Name of the Lord" and we would sing it over and over again as a family. When Tom got that he couldn't sing - the kids and I kept it up.   We chose to praise Jesus right through what we were going through, and trust Him to see us the whole way through it-- AND HE DID!   I do believe that our family grew closer to God through that trial.   What satan meant for bad - God used to show us that He can indeed carry us through the storm.

When the storms of life come and we TRUST, WAIT, & HOPE in the Lord - God will use those storms to lift us to new heights in Him.  We will develop a closer walk with Him, and find ourselves soaring even in the midst of hard times.

Dear Jesus,  Help me to learn to trust You, wait on You, and hope in You, and believe that You will carry me through whatever I face.   You are MY God and I will put my hope in You!
