God’s Hand Of Protection
Two days ago, I was backing my Honda Pilot out of the garage at my home when the steering wheel suddenly locked and I could not turn the vehicle. A quick internet search helped my son to figure out how to get the steering wheel unlocked. That evening we mistakenly thought this was a one-time occurrence and drove the vehicle 22 miles away to our favorite family restaurant. Knowing that I have a medical appointment tomorrow and have to drive 280 miles, I thought it best to contact the Honda dealership and see if they thought the vehicle would be safe to drive. Their reply was “no way” and they further went on to say “this could lock up while you are driving” and “bring it straight here”.
As I write this, I am currently sitting in the waiting area, along with 6 other clients who look extremely bored, as my vehicle is getting diagnosed.
I have to admit, I was a little concerned with driving from my home to the Honda dealership given that it is 25 miles away! I took the safest roads possible and made sure to be extra cautious with every turn, and I allowed plenty of distance between vehicles before I would pull out. As I drove, I prayed that God would protect me.
I began to think of how much I had to do today and how my to-do-list was now out the window. Instead I am sitting in the waiting area with my laptop, wondering how much this bill will cost, and praying that it is under a certain dollar amount. Then I begin to think of how grateful I am that God allowed us to see something seriously wrong with my vehicle while I was in my driveway and not on the highway. I wonder how many times in a given day the Lord God’s hand of protection is over us and yet we don’t realize it?
Psalm 121 says, “I look up to the mountains – does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth”. Sometimes when we are going through hard times we will look anywhere but to the Lord. We will look to the doctor, the diagnosis, the internet, the family member or friend – actually we look everywhere but to the Lord. Yet this verse is telling us that our help comes from God above. The God who made the heavens and the earth is the God who cares for you and me. His hand of protection is ever over us.
“He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps”. God is alert, actually He’s wide awake, and always watching over us to the point that He won’t even allow us to stumble.
“The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night”. No harm will come to us because the Lord protects us. It is HIM who watches over us and Him who stands beside us. The maker of the universe, the powerful Lord Jesus, the Savior of the world, the Bright and Morning Star , the Lion from the tribe of Judah – HE watches over everyone of His children!!
“The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” The Lord God is watching over our lives. He sees when we come and He sees when we go. He sees everything that we do every minute of every day. He keeps us from harm and guards our lives. Amazingly He will continue to do so forever and ever!
As a child of God, we do not need to fear what tomorrow brings. The Lord God walks beside us and His powerful arm of protection keeps us from all harm. He has good planned for our lives. Our job is simply to trust in Him and rest in Him.
